Greencard Registration Service – A New Project

As a new project for a customer, I designed a new website named “GreenCard Registration Service – DVLottery” known in Persian as ” سيستم ثبت نام در قرعه كشي گرين كارت – لاتاري “. My favorite CMS, WordPress, has been used as the core of the website and the theme is the modified free version of “Arthemia”, wordpress theme, and been transted to Persian.

Greencard Registration Service

It took me about a month for all the graphics and codings. SEO was of most important matters for this site and I tried to do my best for making best uses of WP plugins as well as meta tags definitions.

For the registration forms I used CForms plugins; very much reliable and most customizable plugin for this purpose.

Working alone

Nothing is ever more boring than working alone in an office. Within the first days of my employment in the company, there were some other guys all busy designing auto parts and not talking to any other colleagues around. Although, working in a silent place has always been considered as a never-to-be-found chance for me, I got depressed after finding that. Due to company policies, all the coworkers were moved to another branch and left the place empty, with an only workforce. A couple of days ago, however, a new guy has joined me here. He is here to do some graphic designs as well as some office works. He, literally, is supposed to be under my supervision and give me hand in some side projects.

You can imagine me how to say “Yeswhen asked “Tea ready?

Registering Over and Over?

Being online about 9 hours a day, registering at miscellaneous website has been a routine task of mine when surfing among them. Over and over registration tires me when I’m asked to enter all the information about myself like name, gender, date of birth, email, timezone,Yahoo! ID, and etc. I wish all the websites were using Open ID in order to stop me doing such boring fill-in-the-form process.

Challenging this time-consuming task while on Internet, I’ve learned how to cope with this problem. Before I click on the Register button, I do fill in the Login form and make sure that I’m not registered here before. This saves much more time of mine when I’m not frustrated with the massage “Sorry, this username has already been taken“. Since I have a single username for all the services all round the Internet,  most of the time it works.

How to make a rather huge number of visitors to your website

It’s been for a long time that I’m trying to help a website grow in search engines ranking but still frustrated. I have used so many social bookmarking services such as Twitter for twitting news, Youtube for uploading company’s films in order to be shown when googled in movie results of key-word-related searches in Google. Also I’ve used Flickr for photo sharing, Google reader for feed sharing and at last I’ve publicized the feeds of all above in Friendfeed. However, I’ve gained no google page rank and the utmost google search result for the most related keywords has been 8th page, every page 10 results.

I’m thinking of google AdWords, but not sure if the graphic could help make much more out of the plenty of the visitors and persuade them purchase the products, as the result. Since the company is a manufacturer of cup printing machinery, I’ve resorted to alibaba, the most powerful website specifically trying to join the buyers and the sellers in this regard; I’m not a paid member, but since the time I registered for free membership, I’ve received some inquiries about the products advertised free. I decided to persuade the boss to become a Premium member and pay about 600 bucks to make our sales better. I think I’m doing fine and he is so enthusiastic to do so.

Also I’ve tried so many other free websites like alibaba, but think since alibaba is co-operating with Yahoo! and Yahoo! has bought about  a half of its share, it would work better.

I’m writing these, because I still hope I can receive my readers’ advice and get it done much better. Would you please  kindly do me some big favors and generously let me know what else I should do for what I told?

Flickr hack: Download flickr’s protected photos with single click; no script, no extension

FlickrFlickr protects pictures by putting the transparent spaceball.gif on the photos to protect some from being downloaded. It’s been done by the users not wanting to publish their private photos. Normally, in firefox, you can right click on the photo, and then click on “Save Image As…” to save the picture. But with following the method above, you may com across with a 1×1 pixel picture.

By googling, you will find some solutions which let you bypass the space. For example by means of extensions or extra scripts and even firefox’s own menus. These tricks are a little bit time consuming and sometimes boring while you have opened some more pictures and do not want to move away from the page, or you are not at you own desk, or if you are a new web surfer. Just a single click in firefox and the photo is in your computer:

  1. Open a download-protected flickr photo page. [example]Flickr download protected photo
  2. Press CTRL+A on the page to select everything.Press ATRL+A
  3. If you look carefully on the very bottom of the photo, there you’ll see a blank-left space of spaceball.gif about 1mm.1 mm is left
  4. Right click on that space and from the appeared menu click on “View Image”.Flickr Original Photo
  5. Now you can save the picture.

I, accidentally, ran into this bug of flickr and I have always succeeded. Give it try! That’s completely free.

Gmail: Before, After; a New Gmail Feature

Google has introduced a new feature in Gmail . When logging in, you are redirected to a page which shows the loading process and lets you know the length of the time to wait, depending on your Internet speed. It also lets you to choose between the “Standard Mode” and “Basic Mode”; it’s usage especially is when your Internet speed is awfully low, or you don’t like to take your time.

How to Remove the Background Color of the Desktop Icons

If you are using a computer which is not only yours, and others use it frequently and always put a finger in every PROHIBITED pies (settings) in Windows XP, you might have encountered the problem that I have just had.

I had Desktop Icons with annoying colored background which stopped me from enjoying the beauty of my desktop wallpaper. I tried some of the ways that I always use to fix the problem. None of them worked. I did some googling and some solutions found again. They were all the same as I already knew. I’ll put them all here; then I offer my own solution as the last resort.

1st suggestion:

- Right click on the desktop and hover on “Arrange Icons By”.
- From the appeared sub-menu, select “Lock Web Items on Desktop”.
- If it is checked, “uncheck” it.

2nd suggestion (alternative for the 1st suggestion):

- Right click on the desktop and select “Properties”.
- “Display Properties” window appears. Click on the “Desktop” tab.
- Click on the “Customize Desktop” button.
- On the “Desktop Items” you can add/remove or modify desktop items. Check “Lock desktop items” from the “Web” tab.

3rd suggestion (Achilles heel):

- Right click on “My Computer” and select “Properties”.
- Choose the “Advanced” tab, then click on the “Setting” button.
- You can check or uncheck the settings to the ones preferred.

If you are not sure of the appropriate settings, you may choose “Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer” or “Adjust for best appearance” as well.

I, myself, prefer the last solution because I did fixed mine using the last.

Random Reader

I’m a random blog reader. I find blogs randomly using WordPress random readers. It is a very useful fact in WP. I come across with plenty of blogs with different contents and subjects in different languages. You may bump into a blog in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Persian…; all these blogs have miscellaneous topics to read from. Scientific, politics, economics, gossips, dailies, romantic blogs as well as private things in writer’s life are written and read accidentally.

If you have no aim to reading blogs and just surf among them accidentally, I suggest WP users’ blog with random access. It’s fun.
